Signing an agreement for a canned fish factory in Galle

The agreement was signed on 27th July 2011, between the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation (CFC) & the Happy Cook Lanka Foods Pvt. Ltd. to set up a Canned Fish Factory in Galle.

Addressing the gathering at the ceremony of the signing agreement, Hon. Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Dr. Rajitha Senarathne stated that this will save foreign exchange that flow out of the country to import canned fish and also expect to make available a high quality product to the local consumers. This factory is to be set up in the Fisheries Corporation cold rooms complex premises at Galle. Authorized capital is Rs. 84 million and the CFC will provide the necessary infrastructure facilities as its equity for this project. The project will commence in next month and it is expected to produce 10,000 fish cans per day. These fish cans will be available in the local market under the CFC brand name.

The signing of the agreement took place at the Ministry of Fisheries under the distinguish presence of Dr. Damitha de Soyza – Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Mr. Maheel Senarathe – Chairman of CFC, Mr. D.J.U. Purasinghe – Vice Chairman of CFC, Mr. Ruwan Lankeshwara – Managing Director of CFC, Directors of the Happy Cook Lanka Foods Pvt. Ltd. and other Officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and the CFC.
