- Marketing Regions
The function of the marketing regions is to distribute and sell fish at all the retail outlets within the respective regions to consumers at market competitive prices. There are approximately 117 retail sales outlets and wholesale marketing centers coming directly under the control of the Corporation management.
- Production Regions
The function of these regions is to purchase and supply the requirement of the marketing regions according to consumer demand.
- State Supply Division
According to the Cabinet decision CFC provide fishing products to 38 government hospitals. In addition to that CFC also supplies fish to may other State Institutions.
- Purchasing, Sales & Distribution Division
The main function of this division is to purchase fish from the foreign fishing vessels and issue them to both the Corporation regions and the Private trade on a wholesale basis while maintaining buffer stocks. The main source of income to the Corporation is derived from the work of this division.
- Product Marketing & Sales Promotional Division
The function of this division is to make available quantities of frozen fish, cut and packeted from the Cold Room stocks for sale to the consumer through the Corporation retails outlets, Lak Sathosa outlets, Co-op Cities and those stall operated by appointed Agents.
- Minneriya Filleted Fish Project
Fresh water fish varieties (inland fisheries) are purchase by this division, processed by the removal of the skin and bones and packeted in the form of filleted fish for marketing.
Cold Storage Facilities
- Mutwal Cold Storage
This cold storage complex was established in 1987 under grant aid from Finland Government. This facility has a storage capacity of 1000 M.T. and a blast freezing of 12 M.T. This cold storage complex provides facilities to the Corporation’s regions, private Companies as well as the private individuals under a stipulated tariff.
- Containerized Mobile Cold storage plants – 12 Nos.
Capacity of 10 M.T. (-20ºC/-05ºC) 12 Nos. containerized mobile cold rooms with fish storage facilities have been located and made operative. These have been donated by Japanese Government under the Tsunami relief aid.
- Processing plant at Galle
Under the Tsunami relief aid the Japanese Government granted us Cold Storage complex facilities provided in the Galle Fisheries Harbours premises. This plant consists with following features.
- 300 M.T. Cold storage facility
- 50 M.T./ day capacity block ice plant
- Fish processing hall in compliance with European Standards
The following are the on-going activities in the Corporation.
(i)CFC fish retail outlets
The Corporation also operates 98 retail sales outlets in Colombo and other regions employing its own staff and selling fish at regulated, and reasonable prices to the consumer.
(ii) Mobile Sales & Fish Mela Consumer Sales
I n addition to fish sales by regions at retails outlets, mobile fish sales are also conducted to enable sales at locations in and around Colombo and other districts where it was not possible to establish permanent outlets.
A Fish Fair or Fish Mela as it is known also been started in selected major townships. The Fish Mela is at present operated at selected locations in Maligawatte, Ethul-Kotte, Kurunegala, Kuliyapitiya, Anuradhapura & Waththala on a specified day of each week.
(iii) Lak Sathosa – C.W.E. Sales Outlets
On an agreement reached with the C.W.E. the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation retails its packeted fish through the Sathosa outlets of the C.W.E. on a sales commission basis. There are presently 200 Sathosa outlets in the islandwide retailing Corporation fish. This special project is commenced under Mahinda Chinthanya work Programme to reduce the cost of living of consumers.
(iv) Economic Centers
With the objective of marketing consumer products both wholesale and retail at reasonable prices to the consumer by the Economic Centers under the Mahinda Chinthanaya work programme. According CFC stalls were established at following Economic Centers.
(v) The Paliyagoda Wholesale Market
This division operates a wholesale fish sales centre and a retail outlet within the Paliyagoda Market premises. Through these sales activities a control of the fish prices prevailing in the open market is thereby achieved.
