According to the ‘Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future’ and the directive given by the Hon. Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development, a 150 K.V.A Generator and a 10 M.T. containarized ice plant along with the Cold Storage plant were installed at Velanai in Jaffna District and inaugurally opened on 23rd October 2011, by the Hon. Rajitha Senarathne, Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources with the participation of Hon. Douglas Devananda – Minister of Traditional Industries & Small Enterprises Development and many other distinguish guests.
It is expected that this ice plant would help the livelihood activities of the fishing community in Northern area.
